One of the questions people frequently have about living in an RV concerns the kitchen and what to take, or even more importantly, what to leave behind. The most obvious answer is to take along the "things" you need in order to prepare and fix the foods you prefer to eat. The only problem being, that answer is much to simplistic and really doesn't answer the question, since everyone has a different lifestyle as far as cooking concerned. Leaving out those who very seldom or never cook in their RV, the two extremes are the "microwave heater" and the "gourmet". We, like most people fall somewhere in between and so to give some insight into what one couples needs are, we are going to start making a list. A list not of what we cook with, but rather what we cook, since the cooking style will dictate the apparatus needed.
As long time readers know, we cook almost all of our meals in the RV, and it should be pointed out that we almost always eat a cooked breakfast, where the stove is used as opposed to a bowl of cereal, ether cold or microwaved. Lunch is generally a "sandwich" with oftentimes, a pre-prepared side dish, while dinner, like breakfast, is normally a cooked meal, though it is sometimes simply heated leftovers. We have found the South Beach Diet way of eating to not only provide significant improvements to our health, but also fit very well with living and cooking in a small space, and what follows is based on that premise.
While we are not sure exactly how this page, or these pages, may evolved, we will commence with simply listing the meals we eat, plus any recipes which we find that really enjoy. Depending on how ambitious we are, it may also include some of the types of cooking apparatus we use, but don't hold your breath looking for a whole lot of details. Then again. it may end up looking nothing like I am talking about, but after all, isn't that what the internet and life should be all about, the journey and not the destination.
