Master Grocery List

We have found that we generally buy the same items at the grocery store every time we go shopping. In order not to forget some basic items, we have made up a master grocery list grouped by general categories: meats, dairy, fruits, vegetables, baking items, cereal, breads, paper products. If I find I need an item not on the list, I just write it on the side margin.

During the week I will circle the needed item, then when shopping, I just mark the item off.

I have prepared this master list in excel and have two complete lists per page, which I cut in half vertically. By cutting this page I save on paper and also makes a compact list for the store.

Bottles that don’t fit

When we left home a year ago January 2006, I had brought some red wine vinegar from my home supply in a pint water bottle which fit in the cabinet in the coach. Recently when I replenished my supply, I found the bottle I had purchased did not fit in the cabinet-just too tall, so I just poured the contents of my new red wine vinegar in my old vinegar container – the previously used water/wine vinegar bottle. Also the water/wine vinegar bottle is plastic, so breakage is not an issue.

Rattling glass bottles

I know all of you have heard while cruising down the road that mystery tinkle of two glass bottles touching. Well, I have a several solutions:

1.If you can, wrap a towel or wash cloth around or between each bottle

2.Tie one of those multiple plastic grocery sacks you have around each bottle, hence they can NOT touch and do not rattle.

Breakproofed bottles

3.Find a small box and create a divider out of cardboard (like what comes in wine boxes), then place your bottles in each divider. If they cannot touch they cannot rattle.

Boxed bottles

4.For our vinegar and olive oil decanters, we found this plastic box which originally designed for crackers and mounted it inside the cabinet under the stove. Works great!
