May 25 Sunday

Still at Petrified Forest, but our immediate future plans have changed. The 31st will be our last day at the Park, but instead of spending a month up in the Four Corners area, we are are going to be taking a vacation for several months. Several weeks ago we were discussing our plans for next year and decided to move things up to this year,

What those plans included were a canal boat trip in France, a week or two in Italy and then some additional travel in Europe. Sitting in the coach one afternoon, we got into a discussion about going to England. One thing lead to another and before the day was over we had signed up to go to Europe on a Rck Steves Europe Through The Back Door tour in late June. Then our sense of adventure took over and we added on several weeks of travel both before and after the tour.

We talk about Sara N. Dppity being our guide in our Life, and this was another of those times when she was talking and we listened. All this has lead to a buying spree as we have decided to go the one bag carry-on way of traveling. Our current plan, subject to chang of course, is to use public transportation, avoid any lodging carrying more than two stars, eat the food of the countries we are traveling in and just be ourselves.

All this has meant that Linda has gone on a major buying spree resulting in a steady stream of packages being opened almost on a nightly basis. There were the two carry on bags she bought from REI. They were the Rick Steves last years bags at a bargain price, also the Rick Steves Europe through the Back door guidebook and the little adapters that let you plug your applances into the electric outlets in Europe. Of course there were all kinds of other things, but my personal favorite is shown below.

Big and little computer

Here's the HP laptop computer I normally do the website on.

Old computer

Compare that to the new eeepc computer we bought for our travels.

Side by side comparison.

The eeepc is most definitely not a notebook computer. Maybe to describe it as a paperback book computer is more like it.

On the other hand just maybe it is the perfect computer to take if you go to Europe Through the Backdoor.

We have one week remaining at the Petrified Forest, then we will slowly make our way back to California before leaving for 51 days in Europe. Something tells us it is going to be a great summer. By the way, this post was written on that little computer as a test, so it it looks a little weird you'll know why.
